‘Reach4Work Helped Me Break Through The Barriers To Work’

Written by Harry, a BuDS Reach4Work volunteer.

“In recent years, awareness of disabilities has increased, and it is becoming a much more accepted part of our lives. However, there is still work to be done.

Many disabled people struggle to break into the world of work, and this is where BuDS comes in. A successful charity that operates primarily in Buckinghamshire, they have dedicated themselves to the support of disabled people and their issues with preparing for the world of work.

Primarily a voluntary charity, most volunteers are in fact disabled people, me included. We are supported by an excellent team of staff who are patient, caring and understanding of our issues we are faced with.

We are given a glimpse into working life through helping them expand the charity and completing various jobs of our choosing, but how does BuDS help us get into work? Through their Reach4Work program.

The Reach4Work program is a support service designed to help people like me and many others learn various skills that we otherwise may not have had access to during our lives. This comes in the form of CV reviews, lessons about Cover Letting writing and even interview techniques. These are all necessary skills if anyone wishes to breakthrough the barrier that we disabled people face.

This service is entirely remote which is perfect for any suffers of social anxiety and is done at your own pace. My personal Reach4Work advisor has been incredibly patience and understanding to what I wish to gain from this service so any newcomers can rest-assured that their needs will be taken care of.”
