Charity Buckinghamshire Disability Service has announced that its Reach4Work project, which supports disabled people into work, has been awarded £20,000 by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Welcoming the grant, Andrew Clark, Chair of Trustees, said:

“This is fantastic news for disabled jobseekers in and around Bucks. Our Reach4Work project is a unique service that is exceptionally successful at moving disabled jobseeker volunteers into or closer to work, with 95% reporting positive progress. Now, with the support of The National Lottery Community Fund, we can help even more disabled people on their journey towards work, expanding beyond Bucks into Milton Keynes, Slough, North London, Oxfordshire, Beds, Herts and Northamptonshire”.

Simone Curran, BuDS Reach4Work officer, said:

“Reach4Work isn’t like other employability services. Participants join BuDS as volunteers and full members of our team, and the whole BuDS community helps them. We are mostly disabled people ourselves, so we know that moving towards work can be extra challenging and difficult for disabled people. We offer a full wrap-around service to help disabled people with every part of their progress towards work, however quickly or slowly they need to go”.

Harry, a Reach4Work participant, added:

“My personal Reach4Work advisor has been incredibly patient and understanding to what I wish to gain from this service so any newcomers can rest-assured that their needs will be taken care of”.
