Covid infections in Bucks increased last week, with no sign yet that the current wave has peaked. The Covid risk remains Extremely High. It is unclear whether the current wave, driven mainly by XBB variants, will continue to build.

People are asking why we still issue Covid risk assessments when so many people have stopped taking notice of Covid. The reality is that over 10,000 people have Covid every week in Bucks, and their health is getting worse all the time. Nearly all doctors now believe that Covid causes serious long-term effects for many people who catch it, even if they are not very ill immediately. Covid is destroying the health of Buckinghamshire, one infection at a time.

Covid Pandemic – UK Government Officially Gives Up

The Government have abandoned any attempt at controlling Covid in the UK. That’s the only conclusion that can be drawn from their recent announcements about Covid vaccination and boosters.

In background documents¹ slipped out on 7th March during the high profile debate about asylum seekers, the Government have made some extraordinary statements and decisions:

Covid cannot be eliminated, and the population’s immunity to Covid is expected to reduce.
Because vaccines cannot stop the spread of Covid, or prevent non-severe illness, the Government have decided to abandon all future Covid vaccinations for the general public. Only those over 50 or clinically vulnerable groups will be offered primary vaccination in the future, and only at certain times.
Only people at the very highest clinical risk from Covid will be boosted in the future – not to protect their health, but to reduce demand on the NHS. Although this has not yet been confirmed, it appears that only over 75s, care home residents, and severely immunosuppressed people will be eligible for the Spring 2023 booster.
Catching Covid in hospital, when you are there for another reason, is almost inevitable and cannot be prevented by vaccination.

Taken together, these decisions amount to the Government abandoning the people of the UK to a cycle of repeated Covid infections and illnesses.

Levels of Covid infection in Bucks in 2023 dipped slightly last week, because it was half-term. But levels remain Extremely High and taking Covid precautions is still essential. We expect Covid infection levels to rise again as schools and colleges resume after half-term and parents go back to work.

Remember, you can still catch Covid even if you are fully vaccinated or have had Covid before – there is no such thing as lasting immunity from Covid. Even people who caught Covid in January 2023 may be able to catch it again in February or March.

The second wave of Covid in Bucks in 2023 continues to grow, with 1 in 28 people in Bucks now infected. Even if you don’t usually take Covid precautions, now is the time to do so.

We anticipate that we will raise the Covid risk level in Bucks to Critically High next week, as Covid levels race back to the sort of levels seen in January and last year. There will be 11 infected people in a typical busy supermarket and so it is very likely that you will catch Covid in public indoor places if you don’t take sensible precautions.

Fair4All Education – SEND Project Volunteer

Would you like to help fix the issues with SEND Education in Bucks? We are looking for volunteers to join our SEND Education Transitions project. The project will be carrying out a headline SEND transitions service audit, identifying gaps and deficiencies in service, and then working with partners to develop new services, fixes, and solutions.

As a volunteer with the SEND Transition Service, you will have the opportunity to support its work in ways that match your experience, skills, and availability. Some of the specific opportunities are listed below. BuDS prides itself on finding a role for anyone – if you are interested in SEND education, there is bound to be something you can do to help.

We are calling it: the next Covid wave in Bucks has started. After a couple of weeks of lower infection levels, the number of people with Covid in Bucks is now shooting up again. The second wave of Covid in Bucks in 2023 has started. And it’s only February!

We have raised the Covid risk level in Bucks to EXTREMELY HIGH, meaning that 1 in 36 people in Bucks are infected, and there will be 8 infected people in a typical busy supermarket. It is now very likely that you will catch Covid in public indoor places if you don’t take sensible precautions.

The Covid wave in Bucks remains for the moment at the ‘bottom of the peak’. But while levels are low by comparison with earlier in the year, the Covid risk still remains VERY HIGH. 1 in 78 people in Bucks are infected, and there will be 4 infected people in a typical busy supermarket. There are still enough people around to give you Covid if you don’t take care.

Remember, you can still catch Covid even if you are fully vaccinated or have had Covid before – there is no such thing as lasting immunity from Covid. Even people who caught Covid in the last few weeks may be able to catch it again in February.
