Sara’s Blog

In this blog, Sara talks about how she started volunteering for BuDS.

“Hi! My name is Sara and I am one of the accessibility volunteers at BuDS, undertaking a number of projects, having joined quite recently!

My background is predominately in health – I have graduated with a Master’s in Health Policy last year in 2021 and I am a qualified radiographer. I am quite passionate about volunteering for various causes – I’ve published a number of articles on health inequalities and well-being for a charity called Health Action Campaign and worked with vulnerable adults at a Hackney shelter.

However due to the recent pandemic and the fact that I have two disabilities alongside managing my actual job, it has been quite hard trying to balance all the work responsibilities. I’ve heard lots of great stuff about BuDS, who have worked so hard to create a meaningful change through the numerous projects they do to help their local community.

Not only are the team extremely passionate about what they do (which is always great to see!) all staff, including the Chief Trustee are incredibly understanding of staff needs. The highly flexible nature of the role means that I am able to support a new cause that I am quite passionate about myself. I hope BuDS continues to expand and grow – London and the south regions desperately need a charity like this!”
