Covid-19 Risk Assessment: Week Ending 15 July 2022

There remains a CRITICALLY HIGH risk of catching Covid-19 in Buckinghamshire, with an astonishing 1 in every 17 people in the County already infected as of 6 July. This is a Covid EMERGENCY, and everyone now needs to be really Covid-Careful.

Don’t feel safe because you have had Covid before or are fully vaccinated. The new variants of the Covid virus making up this third wave have evolved to avoid your immunity, so you are still vulnerable to catching Covid again. Every time you catch Covid-19 increases your chances of being very ill or developing Long Covid, so it is VITALLY IMPORTANT to protect yourself now, even if you haven’t been Covid-Careful up until now.

Our advice is to wear a FFP2 or N95 filter mask in public places, breathe clean air, avoid crowds and busy places, work from home if you can, and protect your older and vulnerable relatives and friends. These simple precautions will help save you and your family from serious illness or long-term disability.

LD Project Visits Social Link High Wycombe

A small group of BuDS volunteers who are passionate about neurodiversity and learning disability issues came up with some ideas of what we could do to mark Learning Disability week this year. In the end, it was agreed that we would visit a couple of local services to showcase what they offer to people with a learning disability. The purpose of our visits was to find out what the services had to offer before the Covid-19 pandemic began, what happened during the early days of the pandemic, and how the service has evolved and changed since. Below is the second of our reports.

Covid-19 Risk Assessment: Week Ending 8 July 2022

There is now a CRITICALLY HIGH risk of catching Covid-19 in Buckinghamshire, with 1 in every 23 people in the County already infected as of 29 June. The third wave of Covid this year is spreading frighteningly fast. Hospitalisations are rising quickly, with Covid patients in intensive care again. Everyone now needs to be really Covid-Careful.

The new variants of the Covid virus making up this third wave have evolved to avoid any immunity you may have from vaccination or having caught Covid-19 before. Even if you are fully vaccinated, or have had Covid-19 before, you are still vulnerable to catching it again. Every time you catch Covid-19 increases your chances of being very ill or developing Long Covid, so it is IMPORTANT to protect yourself now, even if you haven’t been Covid-Careful up until now.

The Importance Of Work For People With A Learning Disability

Written by Ann H

Work is an important part of life for everyone. I have been lucky. I have had a varied working life. As an Adult nurse working in a variety of settings, as a Learning Disability Community Nurse and finally involved in teaching the next generation of nurses. As part of that I have been involved in the Approval and Monitoring of University programmes. Work has been such an important part of my life. It gave me the opportunity to make friends and meet people. As I grew professionally, my self-esteem and confidence grew, and it gave me the means financially not to have to worry too much about money.  Although at times life was very stressful, working generally kept my mental health on an even keel. Since I retired, I have returned as a Visiting Lecturer working as appropriate, which for me has been very positive.

Covid-19 Alert – 1 July 2022

The number of Covid-19 infected people in Bucks continues to increase quickly, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) released today (1 July 2022). Infection levels started to increase 3 weeks ago, and are still increasing very rapidly. The third wave of Covid-19 this year is growing far faster than predicted, and looks at this stage as if it could be as bad as or worse than the previous two waves.

It is important to remember that Covid-19 is NOT mild – it is not the flu, or a cold. While most vaccinated people will not need to go into hospital, Covid-19 can still make vaccinated people very ill at home. Also, of course, if you catch Covid-19, you run a risk of developing serious post-Covid conditions, or permanent damage to your organs and brain.
