We are delighted to announce that we will be working in partnership with Towersey Festival this August bank holiday to make the 4-day event even more accessible and inclusive for disabled guests. The charity’s volunteers will work alongside event organisers to staff disabled viewing areas, support disabled campers and guests, and provide an emergency quiet space for people needing a break.
Towersey Festival is the UK’s longest-running independent festival, devoted to creating a ‘true community of music, creativity, friendship, and fun’. Established in 1965, the festival has grown to become one of the major arts and music festivals of the year. Headlining this year are Bill Bailey, Howard Jones, Imelda May, Del Amitri, Kate Rusby, Turin Brakes, and Anaïs Mitchell, alongside a huge programme of family-friendly arts, crafts, music and activities. In 2022, the Festival is being held in Bucks for the first time, on the beautiful Claydon Estate near Buckingham.
Joe Heap, Towersey Festival Director, said:
“We are delighted to be working with BuDS to make Towersey 2022 even more accessible and inclusive for our disabled guests. Everyone belongs at Towersey, and we’ve a proud history of including disabled people of all ages. Working with BuDS‘ expert volunteers will help us be an even more inclusive community.”
Andrew Clark, Chair of Trustees at BuDS, said:
“It’s a super opportunity to be working alongside Towersey to support disabled festival-goers. BuDS has been helping event organisers make their events more Fair4All for over a decade and it’ll be exciting to work at a brand-new event, especially one which has such a good past history of inclusivity and access. We look forward to sharing our expertise with Team Towersey”.
Janneke Elford, the Fair4All Events project manager, added:
“It’s fantastic to be working with Towersey this year. Anyone who‘d like to join the BuDS volunteer team at the Festival can register an interest by visiting https://forms.office.com/r/S8qeEReH3L, calling 01494 211179 or e-mailing volunteering@buds.org.uk. We welcome disabled people as volunteers, and we will have a wide range of roles to suit everyone”.
