About EasyRead

BuDS publishes some of our articles in EasyRead format. These articles are produced by our volunteers, and so our capacity is limited. Over time we will publish more EasyRead articles. Please be patient with us whilst we grow this project.

What is an EasyRead Document?

EasyRead is a way of presenting written information which is easier for the reader to understand. It can make complicated information much easier to understand. It is helpful for learning disabled people and others with conditions which may make it harder for them to process and understand text.

The main key elements of an easy-read document are:

  • Text is broken down into short, clear sentences, using words that are simple to understand
  • Text is accompanied by pictures or images which sum up the key information
  • A large font is used, minimum 14 point
  • Documents should be no longer than two pages

Asking for EasyRead

You can ask for any article on this website or on BuDS’ social media to be provided in EasyRead format, if it is not already. We will do our best to help you. We can also help you understand any article, whether it is EasyRead or not, by talking it through with you on the phone or online.

Please e-mail buds-support@buds.org.uk or leave us a voicemail on 01494 211179 to ask for an EasyRead article to be made for you, or if we can help support you in other ways.
