Timms Review: BuDS Calls For Genuine Co-Production

BuDS has joined with 50 other charities and disabled people’s organisations to urge the Timms Review of Personal Independent Payment (PIP) to consult very widely with disabled people receiving all types of benefit.

BuDS is a co-signatory to a letter sent today to the co-chairs of the Timms Review steering group by a large group of charities and disabled people’s organisations. The letter welcomes the fact that the steering group’s membership is diverse, with almost all members having lived experience of disability. However, few of the steering group receive means-tested benefits or live in poverty – they are, in the main, professional, educated people in work. BuDS is a genuine community of all disabled people, and we know that while professional working disabled people have a unique perspective, it is not that of the majority of disabled people.

BuDS therefore very much welcomes the call for the steering group to consult widely so that the voice of all disabled people is heard. BuDS will continue to amplify the authentic voice of all disabled people in its responses to the Timms Review.

You can read the letter to the Timms Review below.
