Pensioner Winter Fuel Credit Payments – Winter 2022-23

If you are entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2022 to 2023, and you are a pensioner, you will get an extra payment for your household. You can receive this alongside other cost of living payments from your tax credits or benefits.

The amount you will receive is different depending on your circumstances at the time of your winter fuel credit payment. A full breakdown of the circumstances, and how they affect your payment, is below. Please note that the amounts shown in the table below are ONLY for the winter of 2022 to 2023, and will not apply at any other time.

You qualify and live alone (or none of the people you live with qualify)£500 £600 
You qualify and live with someone under 80 who also qualifies£250 £350 
You qualify and live with someone 80 or over who also qualifies£250 £300 
You qualify and live with a partner who qualifies, and either of you gets certain benefits£500 – only one of you will get the payment £600 – only one of you will get the payment 
You qualify and live with someone (who is not your partner) who qualifies, and either of you gets certain benefits£500 – you will both get the payment £600 – you will both get the payment 
You qualify, live in a care home, and do not get certain benefits£250 £300 

If you get certain benefits, your payment may be different if you or your partner gets ONE of the following benefits: 

  • Pension Credit 
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) 
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) 
  • Income Support

When Will The Payment Be Made?

Most payments will be made automatically in November or December. 

You will get a letter telling you how much you will get. If you do not get a letter, or the money is not paid into your account by 13 January 2023, contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre for advice.

All benefits, pensions, and allowances will be paid into an account, such as a bank account. If you do not think you have been paid, you should check your account before contacting the Winter Fuel Payment Centre.
