Our vision for a low-Covid world is where we can forget about Covid because it’s controlled by sensible public health precautions left largely in the hands of the same professionals who keep our utilities safe and reliable, plus some uncontroversial personal behaviour changes.
We want people to have the same expectations about the air they breathe as the water they drink or the food they buy. Just as we don’t drink from puddles or eat mouldy food, we want people to avoid dirty air because that’s the uncontroversial sensible thing to do.
The benefits of controlling Covid (and other airborne diseases) are huge. Less sickness and disability are uncontroversially a better thing. A healthier population is uncontroversially a better thing. Controlling airborne diseases is simply a good thing to do.
Let’s put Covid behind us like a mature intelligent and progressive society should: by controlling it, making some sensible changes, and getting on with life. Until we do, we will remain controlled by Covid, condemned to ever-increasing illness and living in fear of the future.
A bunch of extremist failed politicians shamed the whole nation with their chaotic, corrupt, and incompetent response to Covid. We call on the new Government to sweep away their mess and deal with Covid sensibly and intelligently, as a great nation should.
We want to see political consensus about a Clean Air Act, which introduces the necessary regulations and controls to make sure we all can breathe clean air indoors. This doesn’t have to be divisive or controversial or infringe anyone’s personal liberty.
