President Trump’s Claims About Paracetamol & Autism

Paracetamol – known as Tylenol in the US – does not cause or ‘trigger’ autism. If pregnant women take paracetamol, their chance of having an autistic child is not affected. It is extraordinary that we have to say this, but the bizarre news coming from America means we have to.

Autism, of course, is not a disease that you catch or develop, or which can be ‘cured’. It’s a lifelong strongly genetic neurological condition that you are born with and which most autistic people seem to inherit from parents or grandparents. These are indisputable scientific facts.

It is really extraordinary that people holding irrational beliefs, and who are known health confidence scammers, are being allowed to say such rubbish. Apart from anything else, autism was diagnosed before paracetamol even existed as a medicine!
