Video Transcript 14th February 2022

The video version of our latest weekly Covid-19 update can be found below with an attached transcript suitable for screen readers.

The number of infected people in Bucks is increasing again with 1 in 17 people in Bucks infected. UKHSA reported test data is now too inaccurate, and BuDS will no longer use it. Instead, ONS sample data will be used. Cases continue to increase.

This video and transcript explain the full risk post for the week ending 14th February, which can be read here: https://buds.org.uk/covid-19-risk-assessment-week-ending-14th-february-2022/

1 in 17 people infected: Bucks risk is critically high.

Last week we explained the two data collection methods: reported tests vs random sampling. Fewer people are testing and reporting Covid so it looks like cases are going down. This is NOT TRUE. People are still catching Covid in high numbers.

The test data is now too inaccurate and will no longer be used by BuDS. Instead we will use the ONS sample data which is a bit older but is more reliable. ONS sample data shows cases are rising NOT falling.

It is possible to get Covid more than once, including getting Delta then Omicron. Growing evidence suggests Omicron can be caught multiple times too.

This week, there could be this many infected people in these places:

  • Large public event: 1,256
  • Busy town centre: 578
  • Busy shopping centre: 58
  • Busy supermarket: 17
  • Large school: 87
  • High Wycombe: 6,935 Aylesbury: 3,467
  • Amersham: 1,565
  • Chesham: 1,544
  • Buckingham: 867
  • Burnham: 656

Hospitalisations have increased again this week in Bucks with 427 people in hospital with Covid-19 on 6th February. More data is need before we can say if this is an increasing trend. Sadly deaths remain high with at least one person in Bucks dying of Covid every day.

Vaccinations remain at a standstill meaning many people have very low protection. The only change this week was that teenagers with two doses increased from 30%  to 34% which is still very low. Protection from boosters against being ill at home continues to decrease.

We believe everyone must look after their own interests:

  • Shield if clinically vulnerable.
  • Remote educate.
  • Test regularly.
  • Get triple jabbed.
  • Meet outside.
  • Work from home.
  • Ensure ventilation.
  • Use N95 or FFPE2 mask

Stay Covid Careful – remember:

  • You can get Covid more than once
  • 10% of people with Omicron also had Delta
  • Boosters give you the best protection
  • Get boosted
  • Omicron is not mild
  • Omicron spreads quickly indoors
  • Vaccination helps, but does not entirely stop you from catching Covid
  • Children are at higher risk of Omicron
