Video Transcript 7th February 2022

The video version of our latest weekly Covid-19 update can be found below with an attached transcript suitable for screen readers.

The number of infected people in Bucks is increasing again with 1 in 22 people in Bucks infected. Hospitalisations and deaths remain high, but did thankfully decrease last week.

This video and transcript explain the full risk post for the week ending 7th February which can be read here: https://buds.org.uk/covid-19-risk-assessment-week-ending-7th-february-2022/

1 in every 22 people in Bucks infected! CRITICALLY HIGH risk of meeting an infected person.

There are two main data collection methods: reported tests vs random sampling.

Reported tests are published daily, and used by the Government. It relies on people testing positive and reporting their results which means there are fewer reported positive tests, which follows the Government “victory over Covid” narrative.

Random sampling data is less publicised, but is used by BuDS and it tests a large random group of people across the country, so it is more accurate and it shows an increase in cases.

This week, there could be this many infected people in these places:

  • How many infected people in Aylesbury? – 2,780
  • How many infected people in High Wycombe? – 5,560
  • How many infected people in Amersham? – 1,255
  • How many infected people in Chesham? – 1,238
  • How many infected people in Buckingham? – 695
  • How many infected people in Burnham? – 526
  • How many infected people (adults or children) in a large school? – 70
  • How many infected people in a busy town centre? – 463
  • How many infected people at a large public event? – 927
  • How many infected people in a busy shopping centre? – 46
  • How many infected people in a busy supermarket? – 13

Hospitalisations have decreased this week in Bucks, but there were still 425 people in hospital with Covid-19 on 30th January. More data is needed before we can say if this is a welcome downward trend.

But sadly, deaths remain high, and vaccinations are at a standstill meaning many people have very low protection. Protection from boosters against being ill at home is also beginning to decrease.

We believe that everyone must now look out for their own interests.

  • Get triple jabbed
  • Remote educate
  • Meet outside
  • Shield if clinically vulnerable
  • Use N95 or FFPE2 mask
  • Work from home
  • Ensure ventilation
  • Test regularly

Stay Covid Careful. Remember:

  • You can get Covid more than once
  • 10% of people with Omicron also had Delta
  • Boosters give you the best protection
  • Get boosted!
  • Omicron is not mild
  • Omicron spreads quickly indoors
  • Vaccination helps, but does not entirely stop you from catching Covid
  • Children are at higher risk of Omicron.
