Phoenixbury was an annual free-to-attend family music festival in north Bucks featuring 20+ bands over 3 days, with professional staging and sound and many food and other stalls and attractions.
Phoenixbury took place in the event field behind the Phoenix pub, 11 Queen Catherine Rd, Steeple Claydon, Buckingham MK18 2PZ from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 June 2015.
As part of our Fair4All Events project, BuDS worked with the Phoenixbury organisers and our other partners to make it accessible to all, including:
- Viewing platform for disabled guests, with seats
- BuDS volunteers on-hand to support people
- Disabled WC with transfer facilities
- Controlled free Blue Badge parking on site
- ‘Breakout’ area for anyone needing a quieter space for a while, eg autistic people
Feedback from disabled people who attended Phoenixbury is being collated but so far 75% of survey respondents rated accessibility as ‘good’ or ‘very good’, with only 8% rating it as ‘poor’. Given that the event was held in a rough grass field with many physical barriers, this is a spectacular achievement and shows what can be done at all events. A full evaluation report will be posted on this page soon.
BuDS would like to thank the staff and students of Bucks University Technical College, Site Plant Services Hire Ltd, Buckingham Town Council and Steeple Claydon parish church for all their help in making this event accessible to all.
